• 5-7 slides for each group
• clear title for each slide
• include images on each slide that help illuminate topic (suggested links in Pages document included below)
• cite each image source (full URL beneath each image)
• include captions/text boxes to teach others in class about most important ideas (limit 30 words per slide) answering the questions included in your section description below
• use your time wisely in class to work on/finish presentations - we will share work on Thursday at start of class (no exceptions, so if work is not complete, grade will reflect poorly on all group members)

Tenements
Share information and images about the experiences of the poor (many immigrants) who lived in cities. Many lived in crowded apartment buildings called tenements. Be sure to include information and images in your keynote to respond to these questions:
• What did Riis (pronounced Reese) do to make people aware of the conditions in tenement housing? • Research/discuss, “How the Other Half Lives” and share information about tenement housing. • Why do you think his work was important during this industrial age?
Food Safety
Share information and images about Chicago (and other Midwestern cities') meat packing plants and Upton Sinclair's important work to expose concerns about food safety. Be sure to include information and images in your keynote to respond to these questions:
• What were working conditions like? • What were some of the specific concerns about sanitation/food safety? • Why do you think Sinclair's work was important during the industrial age?
Child Labor
Share information and images about the work children did in factories, mills, mines, etc. during the late
1800s/early 1900s. Be sure to include information and images in your keynote to respond to these questions:
• For the late 1800s/early 1900s, what data can you find about the numbers of children who worked in child labor? • What were their working conditions like? • What kinds of industries did they work in? • Why do you think Hines' work was important during the industrial age? • (You do not need to focus too much on child labor reforms - or changes in laws... we'll do that as a class.)
